I made this mural in honor of my Aunt Carrie who passed away from glioblastoma in April of 2021.
As ridiculous as it sounds, making art out of gum wrappers has grown to hold powerful symbolism for me. I take literal trash and repurpose it into something more. This process somehow feels like a small way to express my gratitude for the transformative power of the Savior.
Christ takes “trash” and “trashy situations” and transforms them. He repurposes our lives with the refiner’s fire. He’s atoned for us and for our lives.
Because of Him, families are eternal. Because of Him, we can make covenants that seal us to our loved ones beyond the grave. Because of Him, Aunt Carrie will be reunited with her family who misses her dearly.
Miss you, Carrie.
